DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP WORKSHOP
As educators, we are responsible for mentoring students in the safe, legal and ethical use of digital tools and to promote the protection of intellectual rights and property. This One day Workshop explores why students need to recognize the rights, responsibilities and opportunities of living and working in an interconnected digital world, and shares strategies, practices and tools that empower educators to support digital citizenship in their schools.

Workshop Overview
Promoting digital citizenship is crucial for all educators in schools around the world. This is because successful learning and teaching today involves reaching out beyond the classroom walls to expand possibilities for students to connect, collaborate and create for a global audience. Successful students who can make appropriate and productive contributions in an online environment need to understand and practise the elements of digital citizenship, and to see teachers modelling safe and responsible online practices. Schools and teachers have a vital role to play in ensuring students are ready for the challenges of a digital age society where online actions are essentially permanent and can have an enormous impact on education and future career opportunities.
What will participants learn at this workshop?
During the Institute, participants will:

Session Leader
Maggie Hos-McGrane has been teaching for over 30 years, 25 of these in international schools in Europe and Asia and is passionate about empowering teachers to use technology to transform learning. She is an IB consultant, IB school visitor and IB workshop leader, facilitating both online, face-to-face regional workshops and in-school workshops. Maggie has presented about technology integration at international conferences including ISTE, Learning2, ECIS, AASSA, and EARCOS, in Asia, Europe, Africa, North and South America. Maggie is a Google Innovator, has published several books about digital citizenship and technology integration, and has been recognized as one of the 365 heroes of education by Anthony Salcito, the Vice-President of Worldwide Education at Microsoft. Maggie documents her growth as an educator, coach and leader on her blog, Tech Transformation, which is read by more than one million educators worldwide. She was the Director of Educational Technology at the American School of Bombay.
Maggie is Consilience’s Director of Coaching Services and aims to support schools by tapping into her experience and four year journey to become a cognitive coaching trainer. She has facilitated training at schools in India and Malaysia, and led workshops on coaching for Indian NGOs. Maggie has also presented about coaching at ISTE, NESA, and the Vietnam Technology Conference.
